Simonelli transitioned to directing with Il signor Max (1937), a comedy that gained significant popularity. Throughout his career, he directed over 40 films, including Totò Tarzan (1950) and I due mafiosi (1964). Simonelli's films are noted for their comedic elements and contribution to the Italian comedy genre.
