Ο εμφύλιος έχει τελειώσει και πλέον ο αμερικάνικος στρατός αναλαμβάνει να πολεμήσει τους ινδιάνους . Ο Kirby Yorke που είναι ο διοικητής ενός τμήματος του ιππικού κοντά στον ποταμό Ριο Γκράντε θα δει στους νεοσύλλεκτους στρατιώτες του με έκπληξη τον νεαρό γιο του τον οποίο έχει πολλά χρόνια να δει.
