Der ehemalige Baseballspieler Ray Waller, der durch eine degenerative Krankheit in den Ruhestand gezwungen wurde, zieht mit seiner Frau und seinen beiden Kindern in ein neues Haus. Er hofft, dass der Swimmingpool im Garten den Kindern Spaß macht und ihm selbst als Physiotherapie dient. Doch ein dunkles Geheimnis aus der Vergangenheit des Hauses entfesselt bald eine bösartige Kraft, die die Familie in die Tiefen des unausweichlichen Terrors zieht.
